"When We Wonder If We've Got What It Takes"
My hands grip the steering wheel of my car tightly as I think about the road ahead for my life. It has been a season of open doors and answered prayers. Yet I’m experiencing the same emotions I’ve felt in more difficult times: fear.
I’m confused until I suddenly realize it’s because a familiar question is echoing in my heart, “Will I have what it takes?” We’ve all wondered that at some point, haven’t we?
When we get the opportunity we really wanted.
When we hear the news we never saw coming.
When life suddenly throws a challenge our way.
On our best and hardest days this is something we all long to know—even if we never put it into words.
In the quiet of my car it seemed God whispered to my scared-silly soul: “What matters isn’t if you will have what it takes. What matters is if you will have what needs to be given. And you will. Because I will provide it.’”
In that moment the pressure lifted from my shoulders. I wasn’t required to be perfect. I didn’t have to make everyone happy. I didn’t need to turn into superwoman to accomplish God’s purpose for my life. I just needed to believe and receive.
God would give me the strength. He would love others through me. He would do it.
As I pulled into a parking spot my worried thoughts finally came to a standstill as well. God was with me, for me and able to empower me. Whew.
No matter what we’re facing, the same is true for all of us. When fear comes we can pause and say: “Yes, I have what it takes because I belong to the God who gives all I need…and more.”
