Telling the Truth
Whenever you come to the Bible, the Word of God, it's good to quiet our hearts before we begin. I want to use an acrostic for the word “listen” as a practical way of helping you.
Let your soul sit down, tell it to stop making its "To Do" list. Take its pencil out of its hand.
Intentionally relax. Give yourself permission. Say, "Hey, it's all right!" Pull up the rocking chair. It's good to relax.
Shut your eyes, so that you are not distracted. The Bible says we are to bring every thought into captivity to Christ. What is that distracting thought that's demanding your attention? Well, put a rope around its neck, and bring it to Christ. Ask Him to hold that thought until you are ready to deal with it after the study.
Tune into God interiorly. "Be still and know that I am God!" You can know interiorly that God has spoken to you. His Spirit will be your teacher. Jesus said, "The Spirit will take of what is mine, and make it known to you.”
Entering, we are entering the no-spin zone! You can know the things we learn together are the Truth, God's Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth! You might want to pray "Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of Truth, Thou hast for me.”
Nestle into nearness! Corrie ten Boom used to say, "Don't wrestle, nestle!"
Speak, Lord, we draw near to L-I-S-T-E-N, and not to offer the sacrifice of fools. Teach us, Lord, we are here to learn. I thank You that we have ears to hear! We want to use them! You are in Heaven, we are on Earth, yet You penetrate everything. We stand in awe of You! Amen.
